Vendrath, the Capital of the Daathru Copy link
“The mountain does not shield us. We are the mountain.” — Oath of the Legion-Stewards
The Mountain-Forged City Copy link
Vendrath is the living heart of the Daathru, a fortress-city set into the spine of the Vendrath Range of Northern Duranel. Unlike other capitals of Erevath that sprawl outward, Vendrath burrows inward—a city folded into the very bones of the mountain. Its outer profile appears almost unassuming: a colossal stone gate framed by jagged peaks, with only a few rune-lit terraces and watchtowers visible. But within the mountain lies a multi-layered keep of halls, courts, and caverns that spiral downward and upward in harmonic order, like chambers of a living lung.
Vendrath is not a city of chance or growth. It is designed. Every stair is measured, every hall proportioned, every chamber aligned to the Sacred Pattern. The Daathru believe their capital itself to be an extension of Zal’s will, a blueprint made manifest, each layer of its keep a reminder that Order is not merely practiced—it is embodied.

Layers of the Keep Copy link
Vendrath is divided into five distinct strata, each with sacred function:
The Teeth Gate (Outer Layer) Copy link
The massive outer gates are called the Gate of Teeth, a wall of jagged stone carved into fangs that interlock when sealed. From here, a single ascending causeway leads into the first hall, defended by rune-towers whose light can paralyze intruders with bands of red-green energy.
The First Stratum (The Forum of Accord) Copy link
The entry layer is where common life unfolds. Merchants, artisans, and functionaries maintain order in vast vaulted chambers lit by mirrored shafts of sunlight redirected from the mountain face. Here are the Forum of Accord, a vast amphitheater where laws are pronounced, and the Market of Measures, where trade is regulated by scales carved into the very stone, ensuring balance in every transaction.
The Second Stratum (The March Courts) Copy link
This layer holds the barracks, drill-grounds, and armories of the Iron March. Its halls are long, narrow, and exact, built to amplify the resonance of marching feet until the entire mountain hums with discipline. Here, Legion-Stewards train battalions in spiral arenas whose floor patterns force formations to move in precise harmonic geometries.
The Third Stratum (The Sigil Halls) Copy link
The heart of the Order-Tier and the Stratacaste. Endless chambers of scrolls, sigil-etched tablets, and mirrored vaults form the Labyrinth Codex, where the city’s laws, edicts, and patterns are stored. Here, the Eryndral bind Red and Green Threads into lattices of stability, while Pattern-Keepers study celestial alignments, law glyphs, and divine formulae. Light is refracted through crystal spines that dangle from the ceiling, bathing the halls in shifting geometric radiance.
The Fourth Stratum (The Forum of Law) Copy link
The most sacred civic chamber, where the Voice of Law trial is held. The forum is a tiered amphitheater carved into a natural geode, its walls glittering with veins of red and green crystal. When initiates speak their Declarations of Function, the crystalline chamber resonates—glowing when the Pattern recognizes truth, dimming when falsehood prevails. The Stratacaste and Vorclast Lawbearers sit in judgment, ensuring no word uttered here goes without weight.
The Fifth Stratum (The Valanark’s Terrace) Copy link
At the pinnacle, a massive hollow chamber known as the Sunhold Terrace opens directly to the sky through a vertical shaft cut into the peak. At dawn, sunlight pours into the Terrace, striking the antlered throne where the Valanark sits in silence. Here, the Unbreaking Stag receives visions of the Sacred Pattern, interpreted through light and resonance. The chamber doubles as a council hall where major decrees are handed down, echoing through the entire mountain via carved speech channels running through the rock.
The Philosophy of the City Copy link
Vendrath is not only the Daathru capital—it is their creed incarnate. The Daathru believe chaos is erosion, eating away at the mountain of existence. Vendrath is their answer: a city that cannot be eroded, only carved deeper, layer by layer, into permanence. Each stratum is designed to hold the others in balance, mirroring their conviction that every caste of Daathru society—warrior, mystic, lawbearer, functionary—must interlock to form the whole.
Even in architecture, no chamber exists without purpose. The Daathru reject ornamentation for ornament’s sake; beauty exists only as it reinforces function. A pillar is beautiful because it holds weight. A hall is elegant because its acoustics amplify a voice of law. A statue is sacred not because it resembles a hero, but because its proportions mirror divine geometry.
The Shadow of Tarnik Copy link
Though the Daathru reclaimed Vendrath, they never fully erased its past. Beneath its lowest strata lie the Silent Crypts, ruins left from the Gahlian age of Tarnik Solum. Stained-glass fragments, cracked frescoes of Red Gahlian firelords, and blackened chambers remain untouched, preserved as cautionary scars. Some Daathru whisper that Tarnik’s madness lingers still, murmuring through the crypts to the Fractured who fail their trials.
Yet this too is part of the city’s philosophy: to ignore chaos is to let it fester, but to bind it within structure is to learn from it. Vendrath does not hide its wounds—it integrates them.
Vendrath Today Copy link
Today, Vendrath is more than the capital of the Daathru—it is a living monument to permanence. Within its walls, Daathru society moves with rhythm and precision, each caste and stratum flowing into the other like veins in stone. It is a place where every step, every law, every breath is weighed against the Sacred Pattern.
To outsiders, Vendrath is intimidating, even suffocating: a city with no room for spontaneity, no tolerance for chance. Yet to the Daathru, it is freedom—the freedom of certainty, of knowing one’s place in the lattice of existence.
When the world fractures, Vendrath stands. When law falters, Vendrath resonates. And when the storms of chaos howl, Vendrath endures—because it does not merely hold its people. It is its people.
