Corvians — Ledgers That Outlast Empires Copy link
"The world is built on promises and coin—but only one of them lasts. Every deal is a foundation, every contract a bridge. We do not rule by sword or spell—we rule by ledger and gold." — Mavren Duskveil, First Seat of the Guild Concord
Origins in Corvi’s Covenant Copy link
The Corvians are Nuhlrin born of Corvi, Astral of Trade, who wove them not for conquest but for continuity. When they answered the Call of Balance, they carried no banners of faith or empire; instead, they arrived with counting stones, weighted scales, and sealed contracts. For them, survival was not secured by blades or prayers but by exchange—what was given, what was owed, and what could be trusted.
Where others saw Rhuna as territory to seize, the Corvians saw markets waiting to be woven together. Every caravan waystation became a ledger outpost. Every dispute became an opportunity for mediation. They learned early that when two sides warred, both still needed bread, beasts, and ships. And in that necessity, the Corvians built their dominion.
The Auralynne – Artery of Wealth and Memory Copy link
The lifeblood of Corvia is the Auralynne, a vast river that cuts east to west across the realm before spilling into the Hollowmere at Haverden. Its waters are unlike any other:
• Northern Source – Ice-core melt flows from the Halderin ranges, cold and pure, carrying Blue Thread resonance.
• Eastern Veins – The river passes through Ezhani caverns, where the Ulden Water-Stone sings beneath its flow. Its resonance threads memory and vision into the current.
Where the two meet, the Latticed Tides awaken—a phenomenon of echoing time and ancestral memory. Traders on the Auralynne sometimes glimpse their ancestors reflected in the water, hear voices of the yet-unborn, or surface clutching truths they had long forgotten.
The Corvians did not worship the river. They insured it. They built levees, flood-clocks, and the first river-courts, binding this miracle to law and commerce. From these courts rose Dalemar, the measured capital of Corvia.
Cities of the Concord Copy link
• Dalemar, the Measured Heart — Capital of law and ledger, where contracts are carved into marble halls and trade decrees ripple outward to all six Houses.
• Haverden, the Gilded Threshold — A southern harbor where the Auralynne empties into the Hollowmere. Dock-languages mingle here, and the Guild Isles stand just beyond.
• Vilkhrest — A western bastion where Corvians regulate passage into the Strand. A city of shadows, coded contracts, and half-legal markets.
• Inderalis — A storm-swept plateau city facing the Slated Plains, hub of stormglass trade and lightning-harvest.
• Cindral’s Gate — Northern frontier at the edge of the Witherlands, half fortress, half shrine, where Nullifiers study decay at great peril.
The Guild Concord Copy link
Five centuries past, the great Houses nearly destroyed themselves in internecine sabotage. Caravans burned, contracts failed, and the Hollowmere opened to Ankarran raids. To prevent collapse, the Houses convened upon a neutral ship anchored between their Isles and drafted the Concord of Standing Profit.
Since then, the Guild Concord meets with the tide. It is no throne, no senate—only a mechanism that ensures rivalry does not become ruin. In Corvian philosophy, competition is sacred, but collapse is forbidden.
The Six Trade Houses of Corvia Copy link
House Tavakhor — Steel That Decides Tomorrow Copy link
Born of caravan guards who demanded forge-rights instead of coin, Tavakhor rose to dominate the weapons trade. On their isle of Dakemor, forges burn beside mercenary barracks. Their creed: every weapon must bear provenance. They sell not only arms, but legitimacy—stamped steel, registered mercenaries, and security treaties that make or unmake wars.
House Boskirov — Bondkeepers of Beast and Bloodline Copy link
From wind-scoured valleys, Boskirov mastered the breeding and binding of beasts. Their isle, Vurgrend’s Run, is part paddock, part proving ground, where bloodlines are traced like scripture. They sell loyalty in flesh—war mounts, caravan labor, and exotic companions. Scandals of exploitation nearly ruined them once, and since then Boskirov upholds “consent charters” with Wildlanders, remembering that loyalty must be mutual.
House Devarro — The Coin-Bound Copy link
What began as humble counters on river barges grew into the empire of Devarro, masters of currency, debt, and investment. Their isle of Avarello gleams with marble vaults and golden domes. They survived the infamous “Silent Books” scandal, when they recorded debts never signed, by creating the Neutral Witness Corps of auditors. To Devarro, everything has a price, and history itself is written by those who can pay to have it remembered.
House Vaeloran — Law Written in Wake and Keel Copy link
Vaeloran carved order from chaos at sea. They codified salvage rights, standardized hulls, and created maritime law itself. Their isle, Karshelle’s Mooring, rises in tide-cloaked cliffs, where shipwright chants are equal parts craft and ritual. In the Hollowmere Pirate Wars, they fielded fleets for all six Houses, but demanded no territory—only routes. They see the sea as law itself: ride it, or drown.
House Shenzurai — The Silk Serpents Copy link
On fog-bound Yurell’s Veil, the Shenzurai weave the commerce of enchantment, relics, and arcana. Once, they nearly unleashed ruin by selling a Wither-bound relic to both sides of a war. From that shame was born the Veil Oath: no artifact that could unmake law may be sold. Today, Shenzurai arbitrate relic markets, tune gemstones to memory, and dictate the unseen currents of mystical trade.
House Mahisaar — The Hearthborn Copy link
Masters of agriculture, philosophy, and civic design, Mahisaar turned famine into formula. On Serevalh, their spiral farms rise like mandalas, and every grain store doubles as a temple of proportion. In the Sallow Years, they opened their Open Granaries, feeding the realm but seizing collateral in streets, aqueducts, and irrigation systems. To Mahisaar, harvest is civilization, and those who control bread control destiny.
Pact of Coin, Flame, and Gleam Copy link
When Ankarran pirates savaged the southern shoals, Corvians forged a compact with their rivals: Gahlian war fleets for defense, Ezhani jewels for leverage, and Corvian contracts as neutral mediation. This triangle became the Pact of Coin, Flame, and Gleam—a reminder that Corvians endure not by might or miracle, but by always being the hinge between others’ power.
