Meridia – The Echoed Empire of Fortune and Resolve
Meridia is the land where survival itself became doctrine, where the broken fragments of ten fallen Nuhlrin empires chose unity not through prophecy or divine mandate, but through sheer defiance of extinction. It is the western sentinel of Erevath, a nation perched between the Seradine Ocean’s tides and the Witherlands’ abyss, forged from ruin into a civilization that worships no throne but its own endurance.
Origins: From Broken Crowns to Shared Covenants Copy link
When the Portals tore open the Nuhlrin world, Vel’s chaos consumed entire rulers, thrones, and dynasties in the cataclysm known as the Sundering of the Thrones. The golden cities of Vessakar crumbled, the obsidian gates of Ulveris fell silent, the war banners of Tzall were stained with their own blood, the fleets of Dazh’kaal devoured one another, and the shadow-empires of Zevrathis tore themselves apart in betrayal.
What remained were people without rulers, soldiers without orders, and families without legacies. Where other Nuhlrin splinters sought refuge in faith, exile, or the mercy of other Origins, survivors of the western coast gathered around a shared covenant. At Vahlia during the Trials of the Fractured, strands bearing the marks of the surviving factions were joined into one oath-cord. Alyndor Valkaris united those factions and claimed the Emberbrand Sigil of Balance. From that moment, the Meridian Empire was not born of thrones—but of vows.
The Meridian Division: Tydrunar and Khaldyr Copy link
Meridia endures in two voices—each distinct, each necessary:
Tydrunar (Western Meridians – The Luckshores) Copy link
Along the glittering coasts of the Seradine, Vanthis rises in tiers of marble, covenant courts, and markets where even fate itself is traded. The Tydrunari embrace chance as ritual, gambling not for coin alone but for status, titles, and futures. Glimmer, the divine particulate that drifts ashore from the Seradine scar, is both blessing and curse—woven into their shrines, their contracts, and their very philosophy of survival. To live in Tydrunar is to walk the edge between chaos and fortune, with witnessed seals and oath-cords recording every pact.
At the heart of this domain is Vanthis, the capital where the Lottery of the Divine reshuffles the social order each new moon, and where every shrine is also a wager. Yet not all is chance—northwest of Vanthis lies Anmor, the war-capital where Verigan, the Gambler-King, commands the Sanguine Suns, a brotherhood of twelve Glimmer-marked warriors who defied the odds of fate and emerged as the most feared Vathian slayers in all of Rhuna.
Khaldyr (Eastern Meridians – The Nuhlveldt Reach) Copy link
Where Tydrunar gambles, Khaldyr endures. The eastern frontier of Meridia stares into the Nuhlveldt and the Witherlands—scars of the Vel Detonation where the Threads flicker, rupture, and die. Here rises Irenfel, a fortress-capital of basalt and voidsteel, where watchfires warn of danger and standards gather the ranks. The Khaldyri philosophy is cold and precise: luck is an unreliable variable, best countered with discipline, vigilance, and nullification.
They mine Voidsteel, the rare ore that disrupts Thread manipulation, forging the Meridian Nullifier Armor—a weaponized doctrine of resistance. In Irenfel, survival is an oath, adulthood is earned by enduring a Wither-watch, and their commanders, like Rehnira Ironvale, rule not by charisma but by the scarred authority of those who faced annihilation and stood unmoved.

Across both Tydrunar and Khaldyr, covenant connects personal promises with public responsibility. Decrees, contracts, and oaths are recorded through witnessed marks, sealed documents, and joined oath-cords. Glimmer-work and Voidsteel engraving may reinforce ceremonial records, but the obligation belongs to the people who make it. Breaking a covenant can fracture a person’s standing, alliances, and place in collective memory.
In Vanthis, wager-cloths and oath-cords display changing fortunes; in Anmor, sigil-standards gather the ranks; in Irenfel, watchfires and survey marks make vigilance visible across the Nuhlveldt plains. Together, they sustain a civilization through risk, commitment, and preparation.
The Council of Founders Copy link
Though divided in practice, Meridia is bound by the Council of Founders, a circle of leaders who embody the ethos of survival: Verigan the Gambler-King, Rehnira Ironvale, and the Covenant-Keepers of Vanthis among them. Their philosophies often clash—fortune versus vigilance, gamble versus grit—but their unity lies in the recognition that division means annihilation.
Place in Erevath Copy link
Meridia is not merely a nation—it is a shield for the western half of Erevath. To its west lies the Seradine Ocean, to its north the forests of Erendor, to its east the unstable Nuhlveldt and the Witherlands, and to its south, Corvia’s coin-driven empires. Meridia sees itself as the balance-point between excess and entropy, standing guard against threats that would unravel all of Rhuna.
Where others remember prophecy, the Meridians remember ruin. And where others fear the dice-roll of fate, the Meridians have learned to build a shared obligation from the ruins.
