The Slated Plains – Harmony of Wounds and Wonders Copy link
A Land Torn in Two Copy link
The Slated Plains are a land of fracture and resilience, where the world itself bears the scars of divine impact. The upper Overworld is a stark, slate-gray expanse of brittle stone ridges and wind-carved monoliths. Life here clings to resilience—scrub flora, isolated encampments, and the watchful eyes of the Ezhar as they dance across the dangerous terrain. Beneath it, hidden from the harsh storms above, lies the Underworld, a labyrinth of rivers, caverns, and bioluminescent life—the beating heart of Ezhani civilization.
The divide between these realms is no mere geography but a symbol of the Ezhani themselves: creatures of harmony born between light and shadow, surface and depth, order and chaos.
The Crater-Cities of the Underworld Copy link
Three great cities cradle the lifeblood of the Ezhani beneath the surface, each nestled within vast craters formed when Lesser Deities Halka, Vesar, and Nelni fell to Rhuna during the War of Severed Threads. Their impact birthed the great Uldenshar Riverways, whose waters now flow like golden veins through the Auralynne, sustaining all of Erevath and Corvia.
Vierlune – The Moonlit Sanctuary (Halka’s Gift) Copy link
Built within the largest crater and surrounding the deep lake Nazena, Vierlune is the spiritual heart of the Ezhani. Here, the waters are said to hold Halka’s tears, purifying all they touch. The city’s architecture is a blend of natural stone and woven vine, glowing faintly with soft, resonant crystals that respond to song. Its amphitheaters open to the cavern ceiling, where a circular opening reveals the night sky—known as The Lunar Eye, a sacred window through which the Ezhani believe Ezhan still watches them. The Chorus of Renewal, a grand ritual performed here each moon, channels the Yellow Thread of Harmony to keep the Auralynne flowing.
Makara – The Spiral of Stories (Vesar’s Echo) Copy link
Makara is carved into a downward-spiraling cavern whose walls are lined with resonant gemstones that hum with stored memory. Here, Vesar’s essence lingers—the god of Story, who fell with a silent cry that shaped this place. Songs sung within Makara do not fade; they are absorbed into the stones and replayed in faint echoes for centuries. The city is a repository of history, holding every triumph, tragedy, and secret whispered within its halls. Scholars and choirs gather here to preserve not just knowledge but the very emotional resonance of their people, ensuring that even when voices are lost, they are never truly gone.
Elthrular – The Veil of Navigation (Nelni’s Gift) Copy link
A city of mist and light, Elthrular rises around a monumental crystal spire whose pulse aligns with the world’s rhythms. Nelni, the Lesser Deity of Navigation, is said to have gifted this place with eternal guidance. Travelers from across the Underworld pass through Elthrular to chart safe passage through the shifting Uldenshar currents. Its people are navigators, map-makers of sound, and guardians of the river’s deepest secrets. Elthrular’s grand halls glow with cool blues and silvers, and its rituals are more hushed than the other cities—a place of quiet focus amid the chaos of the plains.
The Riverways – The Auralynne’s Lifeblood Copy link
From the combined flows of Nazena’s lake, Makara’s echoing springs, and Elthrular’s misted channels, the Auralynne surges forth. It winds beneath the Slated Plains before breaking to the surface far beyond, its waters feeding the swamplands near Dalemar in Corvia. To the Corvians, this river is a blessing beyond measure; without its flow, their southern territories would rot and die. To the Ezhani, it is sacred proof of their purpose—a living embodiment of Ezhan’s song sustaining the world above.
The Auralynne is more than water; it is resonance given form. Fish in its depths hum in soft chords, stones along its banks vibrate faintly with distant songs, and travelers who rest by its currents often wake with melodies they cannot remember learning.
The Overworld – The Domain of the Ezhar Copy link
Above, in the brittle expanses of the Overworld, the Ezhar roam the slate ridges, harvesting volatile harmony-essence from Thread-Tornados and safeguarding the entrances to the Underworld cities. Dakella, perched along the mountains of Anzalla, serves as their chief stronghold—a highland outpost where Skyclaimers and Slaterunners meet to exchange goods and prepare for the trials of the storms.
These surface settlements are austere but vital, maintaining the link between sky, land, and river. Without them, the Underworld’s harmony would remain hidden, unable to touch the world beyond.
The Ezhani’s Purpose Copy link
Every song sung in Vierlune’s amphitheaters, every memory preserved in Makara’s stones, every course charted in Elthrular, and every leap made by an Ezhar above contributes to the same purpose: to ensure that Ezhan’s fractured melody never dies. They are harmony made flesh, and through the Auralynne, their song flows to all corners of Rhuna.
The Slated Plains are not just their home—they are their body, their history, and their promise. And as long as the waters run and the crystals sing, the world will remember that from sorrow, beauty can still rise.
