Size represents the physical scale of a Hero. Every Hero begins with three permanent Weight tokens; their available Weight Profiles determine the types of those three tokens.

Weight represents how a Hero's physical presence manifests during a Performance. It describes the relationship between lightness, stability, and physical mass rather than the Hero's physical strength.

Every Hero begins with three permanent Weight tokens in their Shade Bag. Each token has a Weight type of 0, 1, or 2. Weight contributes 0 Power when WEIGHT is OFF or is not relevant to the check based on the action or narrative. When WEIGHT is ON or matters to the story, it may contribute 1 Power, reduce the current Performance by 1 Power, or contribute 0 Power, depending on the circumstances. The printed 0, 1, and 2 identify Weight types; they are not automatic Power values. WEIGHT ON does not guarantee a minimum contribution.

During Hero creation, select a Weight Profile from those available to your Origin Kind. This profile determines the values of your three Weight tokens.

Weight tokens are not Potential Embers and are not normally replaced through advancement.

Each Weight Profile represents a distinct distribution of three Weight tokens.

Weight Profile

Token Distribution

Maximum Weight

Physical Expression

Weightless

0 / 0 / 0

0

Your body consistently minimizes its physical presence, favoring delicate movement and actions that require little physical mass.

Featherlight

0 / 0 / 1

1

Your body favors exceptional lightness while retaining a small degree of physical grounding.

Light

0 / 1 / 1

2

Your body favors mobility and delicate movement while maintaining modest physical stability.

Balanced

0 / 1 / 2

3

Your body expresses lightness, grounding, and substantial mass in equal measure.

Grounded

1 / 1 / 1

3

Your physical presence is consistent, favoring stability without specializing toward either extreme.

Heavy

1 / 1 / 2

4

Your body favors stability and resistance, with the ability to bring greater mass to bear when needed.

Massive

1 / 2 / 2

5

Your physical presence is substantial, favoring bracing, resisting displacement, and actions that benefit from considerable mass.

Colossal

2 / 2 / 2

6

Your body consistently brings extraordinary physical mass to bear, favoring stability, resistance, and forceful physical interaction.

A Hero selects one complete Weight Profile rather than assigning the values of their three Weight tokens individually.

Maximum Weight represents the total Weight generated if all three Weight tokens are revealed during the same Performance.

A Hero's Weight Profile determines their starting physical characteristics but does not establish their physical strength, combat ability, or overall capability.

WEIGHT PROFILES BY ORIGIN Copy link

Each Origin Kind has a specific range of available Weight Profiles. These ranges reflect the physical characteristics associated with that Kind.

Weight does not automatically contribute toward a Performance's Difficulty Target.

Instead, Weight becomes relevant when a Keyword, environmental condition, or physical interaction specifically references the Hero's physical presence.

MASS Copy link

MASS represents the physical presence required to accomplish an action or resist an external force.

When a Performance references MASS #, add together the Weight values of all Weight tokens revealed during that Performance.

If the total meets or exceeds the required MASS, the Hero satisfies that physical requirement.

A Hero's maximum possible revealed Weight is determined by their selected Weight Profile.

LIGHT Copy link

LIGHT represents circumstances in which a Hero must minimize their physical presence.

Actions involving delicate movement, fragile surfaces, limited space, or the avoidance of physical disturbance may reference LIGHT.

Lower Weight values are generally more favorable when a Performance requires minimal physical presence.

The consequences of exceeding a LIGHT requirement are determined by the applicable Performance rule or Keyword.
