Edit each starting Chronicle in Unfinished stories in the story. Record its Beginning, Middle and End as events develop in Adventure Journal. These stages may remain empty at creation. Editing a stage records what happened; it does not automatically grant a reward or advance an event.

Chronicles are the stories that shaped a Hero before the adventure began.

They represent defining experiences, unresolved events, discoveries, promises, losses, mysteries, and other moments that continue to influence who the Hero has become. A Chronicle is more than backstory—it is a living piece of the Hero's personal narrative that fate may bring back into the present.

At Character Creation, a Hero begins with seven Chronicles. Entries may be specific or intentionally broad, allowing details to emerge naturally during play.

Unlike Bonds, which focus on important people and relationships, Chronicles focus on events, experiences, mysteries, and unfinished stories.

CHRONICLES & DESTINY Copy link

A Chronicle can return through the developing story. A Birth Sign does not automatically place a Token in the Boon area or trigger an event.

Use the general Favor rules when Favor is called upon. There is no additional Birth Sign procedure.

Fortune and Fate provide narrative directions for personal events: an opportunity, return, or restoration may feel fortunate; an obligation, loss, or hidden truth may feel adverse.

The Hero’s recorded Destinies help the WorldKeeper shape a Chronicle event that connects with the current story.

A Chronicle might return through a discovery, memory, NPC, rumor, object, location, consequence, revelation, or connection to what is happening now.

It does not need to interrupt the current story. Ideally, the Chronicle should make the current story feel more connected to the Hero.

Fortune & Fate CHRONICLE EVENTS Copy link

A Fortune Chronicle Event develops through the Hero's chosen Destiny — Fortune. It may reveal an opportunity, restore something lost, uncover useful truth, create connection, or move an unresolved story toward possibility.

An Fate Chronicle Event develops through the Hero's chosen Destiny — Fate. It may expose consequences, reopen old wounds, obscure truth, create conflict, or make an unfinished part of the Hero's past more difficult to escape.

Fortune does not always mean pleasant, and Fate does not always mean disastrous.

A favorable Destiny might reveal a painful truth that the Hero needed to know. An adverse Destiny might return something deeply desired, but in a way that creates a new burden.

Destiny determines the direction of the event—not whether the Hero is happy about it.

EVOLVING CHRONICLES Copy link

Each Chronicle has a Beginning, Middle, and End, representing the progression of that story during the campaign.

The Beginning brings the Chronicle into the present.

The Middle changes, complicates, or reveals something new about it.

The End brings the current story to a meaningful resolution or transformation.

Whenever a Chronicle advances, use the Fortune or Fate Destiny that triggered that particular event and apply its corresponding Beginning, Middle, or End direction.

A Chronicle is never permanently Fortune or Fate. Its Beginning might emerge through Fortune, its Middle through Fate, and its End through Fortune again.

Reaching the End does not erase the Hero's history. The Chronicle may remain as a resolved part of their past, transform into a new story, or eventually be replaced by something more relevant to who the Hero has become.

The Chronicle tells you what story matters. The stage tells you where that story stands. Destiny tells you what happens next.
