Position measures control, footing, pressure, and danger during an extended conflict. In combat, it directly determines the Fatigue or Wound consequence of each Clash.
The shared trackCopy link
Overwhelmed → Pressured → Neutral → Advantage → Dominant.
The opposing sides read mirrored Positions. When one side is Dominant, the other is Overwhelmed; Advantage faces Pressured; Neutral faces Neutral. Track a single shared shift rather than applying the winner’s gain and the loser’s loss separately.
Shift after the ClashCopy link
Margin between totals | Position shift |
|---|---|
1–3 | 1 step toward the winner |
4 or more | 2 steps toward the winner |
Tie | Hold Position |
Resolve armor-break triggers, compare the totals, and resolve any Shield protection before applying the final consequence. A Shield may prevent 1 step of Position loss once per combat; record only the net shift. Position stops at the ends of the track.
Combat consequencesCopy link
Read each side’s resulting Position after the shift. Apply the consequence to both sides, including the winner. Combat does not draw Impact or Wear to determine these costs.
Resulting Position | Combat consequence |
|---|---|
Overwhelmed | 1 Wound, or an agreed concession |
Pressured | 1 Wound |
Neutral | 2 Fatigue |
Advantage | 2 Fatigue |
Dominant | 1 Fatigue |
Armor and WoundsCopy link
A Hero Momentum trigger or an enemy armor-break symbol can damage armor even on a losing draw. Resolve these breaks first. Armor that has not broken blocks 1 incoming Wound instance, then loses 1 condition step; Broken armor cannot block. See Physical Conflicts for the complete Exchange.
Conceding at OverwhelmedCopy link
An Overwhelmed combatant may offer a meaningful concession instead of taking the listed Wound. Agree the terms with the WorldKeeper and participants. If the concession is not accepted, resolve the Wound normally, including armor protection.
Social ConflictCopy link
The short Social Conflict procedure does not use the Position board or a starting-Position Impact/Wear table. Resolve one exchange, then Accept Opening or Press Further once if a Social Break created an Opening. The combat Position track and consequences above remain unchanged.
