Throughout play, Heroes and the world around them are constantly changing.
Victories build confidence. Discoveries deepen understanding. Relationships evolve. Faith strengthens or falters. The Threads resonate or strain beneath the weight of mortal action.
These ongoing shifts are represented through Currents.
Currents track the changing momentum, relationships, and circumstances that develop as the story unfolds. Unlike Resources, which are spent, or Conditions, which are applied, Currents represent the present state of a Hero or the world at a given moment.
As Heroes act, succeed, fail, and make meaningful choices, Currents move back and forth to reflect the consequences of those actions.
Most Currents range from -2 to +2, with each position representing a different narrative and mechanical state.
A Current does not determine what a Hero can attempt.
It reflects the circumstances surrounding that attempt.
PERSONAL CURRENTS Copy link
Personal Currents belong to individual Heroes.
Each Hero tracks their own Personal Currents independently.
These Currents represent personal growth, momentum, reputation, understanding, and long-term efforts.
Personal Currents are adjusted through Moments, Events, discoveries, failures, successes, and meaningful story developments.
The four Personal Currents are:

Represents confidence, momentum, discipline, and effectiveness under pressure.
Prowess shifts as Heroes take risks, achieve victories, suffer setbacks, and push themselves beyond their limits.
LORE Copy link
Represents understanding, awareness, insight, and knowledge.
Lore shifts as Heroes investigate mysteries, uncover secrets, conduct research, and deepen their understanding of the world.
SKILL Copy link
Represents progress, refinement, craftsmanship, and long-term effort.
Skill shifts as Heroes build, repair, craft, prepare, invent, and advance Projects.
INFLUENCE Copy link
Represents reputation, trust, authority, and social standing.
Influence shifts through diplomacy, leadership, favors, negotiations, deception, and public action.
SHARED CURRENTS Copy link
Shared Currents belong to the entire table.
All Heroes contribute to their movement, and all Heroes experience their effects.
Shared Currents represent the larger forces influencing the story, including divine favor, spiritual conviction, and the stability of the Threads themselves.
Unlike Personal Currents, Shared Currents often affect entire adventures, regions, factions, and story arcs.

Represents the relationship between the Heroes and greater cosmic forces.
Divinity shifts as Heroes uphold, challenge, ignore, or influence the powers that shape existence.

Represents conviction, purpose, and alignment with the Vigils of Life, Reflection, and Death.
Devotion shifts as Heroes act in accordance with—or contrary to—the principles they claim to follow.
THREADWEAVE Copy link
Represents harmony, strain, and stability within the Weave.
Threadweave shifts as Heroes manipulate, disturb, stabilize, repair, or abuse the Threads.
MOVING CURRENTS Copy link
Currents change as a result of meaningful actions and consequences.
Whenever a Moment, Event, Discovery, Failure, Success, Project, or major story development significantly affects a Current, the WorldKeeper may move it one or more spaces.
A value of 0 represents balance.
Positive values represent favorable circumstances, momentum, alignment, or opportunity.
Negative values represent resistance, instability, pressure, or growing complications.
Currents should move because the story changes—not simply because a Hero succeeds or fails a roll.
The fiction comes first.
The Current reflects the result.

Each Current uses descriptive states to help interpret its position.
These states provide both narrative context and mechanical meaning.
As a Current rises or falls, its state changes accordingly, influencing future actions and shaping the unfolding story.
