The Favor Bag contains 23 tokens, representing the divine forces of Rhuna across the seven Pathways and three Shades, along with the cosmic forces of Xul and Xantyr.
Each ordinary Favor Token represents a deity, its associated Pathway and domain, and one of the three universal Shades. Xul and Xantyr exist outside this structure as unique Gold Favor Tokens.
Heroes are not alone in shaping events. The world answers.
In addition to each Hero's Performance Bag, the WorldKeeper holds a separate Favor Bag. Favor represents circumstance, divine influence, narrative pressure, and the unseen forces that respond to a Hero's actions.
Favor is not simply randomness.
It is reaction.
A Hero may choose to Invoke Favor when they want forces beyond their own capabilities to influence a Performance. The Hero chooses whether to make the invocation, but they do not choose which divine force answers.
The answer is drawn randomly from the Favor Bag.
THE FAVOR BAG Copy link
The Favor Bag contains 23 tokens, each associated with a divine force.
Twenty-one tokens represent the intersection of the seven Pathways and the three universal Shades of Order, Balance, and Chaos.
Order — White represents structure, clarity, intention, stability, and reinforcement.
Balance — Gray represents adaptation, harmony, mediation, compromise, and redirection.
Chaos — Black represents impulse, disruption, transformation, instability, and change.
The Favor Bag also contains two unique Gold Favor Tokens. Xul — Cosmos represents the strongest expression of cosmic support, while Xantyr — Fate represents cosmic opposition.
Favor is never chosen from the bag. When Favor is Invoked, its token is drawn randomly.
INVOKING FAVOR Copy link
A Hero may spend 1 Favor to Invoke Favor during an appropriate Performance.
When Favor is Invoked, randomly draw one Favor Token from the Favor Bag and compare its Shade to the Shade being used for the Performance.
Resolve the Favor Token's effect immediately.
The Hero determines whether to Invoke Favor.
The Favor Bag determines who answers.
FAVOR & PERFORMANCE Copy link
When Favor contributes to a Performance, compare the drawn token's Shade to the Shade being used for that Performance.
A Matching Shade strongly supports the Hero and contributes +2 Versatility.
Gray Favor is adaptable and contributes +1 Versatility, regardless of the Performance's Shade.
An Opposite Shade contributes 0 Versatility. The divine force has answered the invocation, but its nature does not support what the Hero is attempting.
Gold Favor does not compare Shades and instead applies its unique value.
Favor | Effect | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
Matching Shade | +2V | Favor aligns strongly with the Performance. |
Gray | +1V | Balance provides adaptable support. |
Opposite Shade | 0V | Favor answers but does not support the Performance. |
Xul — Cosmos | +4V | Cosmic influence strongly supports the Performance. |
Xantyr — Fate | −4V | Cosmic influence strongly opposes the Performance. |
Favor influences the weight of a Performance without deciding its outcome by itself.
The Hero acts. The world leans with them—or against them.
GOLD FAVOR Copy link
Gold Favor represents a direct intervention by forces greater than the ordinary divine influences of Order, Balance, and Chaos.
When Xul — Cosmos is drawn, the Performance gains +4 Versatility.
When Xantyr — Fate is drawn, the Performance is reduced by 4 Versatility.
Gold Favor is explicitly FOR or AGAINST and does not depend upon the Shade of the Performance.
Gold Favor represents a Moment when the cosmos does more than lean.
It intervenes.
THE STAR GRID Copy link
When a Favor Token is drawn, the divine force that answered the invocation may become Awakened within the Star Grid.
Place the drawn deity in its corresponding position on the Star Grid. The token now serves as a visible record of the divine forces that have exerted influence upon the unfolding story.
An Awakened deity does not dictate what must happen. Instead, its identity, domain, Shade, and relationship to other Awakened deities may provide the WorldKeeper with themes, omens, complications, opportunities, and narrative direction.
As additional deities awaken, the Star Grid develops a unique constellation of divine influence. Repeated themes may begin to emerge naturally from the gods that have answered the Heroes.
The Star Grid therefore becomes both a record of Favor and a developing reflection of the forces shaping the story.
The Heroes determine when to ask for help. The Star Grid remembers who answered.
THREE WAYS TO READ FAVOR Copy link
Every ordinary Favor Token contains several pieces of information that can be interpreted independently or together.
During a Performance, its Shade determines its immediate mechanical contribution.
During Events, Travel, or other systems that reference Favor, its additional information may determine the nature or category of the world's response.
Its Divine Identity provides a narrative interpretation of why that response may be occurring.
Favor can therefore operate as both a mechanical modifier and a narrative oracle without requiring additional randomizers.
SHADE — DIRECTION Copy link
Shade describes the immediate nature of Favor.
Order suggests stability, reinforcement, clarity, structure, and intention.
Balance suggests adaptation, compromise, mediation, redirection, and harmony.
Chaos suggests disruption, transformation, instability, impulse, and change.
During a Performance, Shade determines Favor's Versatility contribution.
Outside a Performance, Shade can instead answer:
What kind of force is shaping this Moment?
DIVINE IDENTITY — MEANING Copy link
Every Favor Token is associated with a divine identity and domain.
The WorldKeeper may interpret that identity as an omen, theme, symbol, or narrative prompt when determining why something is occurring or what form an unexpected development takes.
Gahl — Conquest might suggest dominance, competition, victory, or territorial change.
Pahr — Visions might suggest foresight, illusion, revelation, or misunderstanding.
Tol — Deceit might suggest concealment, manipulation, secrets, or false appearances.
Azcala — Justice might suggest judgment, accountability, fairness, or consequence.
Vel — Chaos might suggest unraveling, transformation, instability, or sudden change.
Divine Identity answers:
What kind of story is emerging from this Moment?
READING FAVOR TOGETHER Copy link
Shade and Divine Identity can combine to create a broader narrative prompt beyond the mechanical result of Favor.
A Chaos Favor associated with Tol — Deceit, for example, suggests an influence shaped by both disruption and deception. A lie might destabilize the situation, an important truth might become obscured, or manipulation may suddenly become relevant.
If multiple Favor Tokens have become Awakened within the Star Grid, their identities may also be interpreted together.
Rath — Death alongside Corvi — Trade, for example, might suggest a transaction involving mortality, sacrifice, inheritance, debt, or the cost of survival.
The tokens do not dictate a predetermined event.
They provide direction and meaning from which the WorldKeeper interprets the world's response.
WHEN TO USE FAVOR Copy link
During a Performance, the Hero decides when to Invoke Favor by spending Favor and drawing randomly from the Favor Bag.
Favor may also be referenced by systems such as Events, Travel, Weather, Chronicles, Bonds, or divine interactions when those rules specifically call upon the Favor Bag.
Favor should not replace ordinary WorldKeeper judgment. It is most valuable when uncertainty itself is meaningful and allowing Rhuna's greater forces to answer can create an unexpected direction.
Heroes act. Favor reveals how the world answers.
