Purelands (Valethi) Copy link

Purelands, known to the Ezhani as Valethi, are regions of Rhuna where the Wither cannot rise. These lands are infused with active cosmic harmony, potent Thread alignment, or divine reinforcement, making them bastions of stability in a world often torn by entropy. They serve as living embodiments of balance, resisting Vel’s corruption through natural, divine, or ritualistic means.

Thread Resonance Alignment Copy link

Some Purelands emerge naturally where the five Threads—Red, Green, Yellow, Blue, and Violet—exist in perfect harmony. In these rare places, the Weave itself becomes self-healing, automatically unraveling minor Wither intrusions as if the land itself rejects imbalance. These zones pulse with quiet, rhythmic energy, their air often shimmering faintly with unseen resonance. Such places include the high groves of Vahlia, the Spiral Gardens of Ulden, and stretches of Imarand and Onerra where the Threads meet in undisturbed synchrony.

Sanction Anchoring Copy link

Purelands can also be created through ritual. When Threaders or Divine Pathway figures perform sacred rites, they bind Sanction energy into the land itself. This anchoring creates long-lasting protective fields that Vel’s influence cannot penetrate unless the Sanction is broken or depleted. Examples of these sanctified lands include Zaltar-forged sanctuaries, ancient Rhunai oath-sites, and Imari Esharun murals still resonating with the compassion of their makers.

Cosmic Artifacts and Divine Presence Copy link

In other cases, Purelands exist because of something—or someone—extraordinary. The presence of a divine entity, relic, or cosmic seed can preserve an area indefinitely. These are places where reality bends toward order and life, where Wither cannot take root. Notable examples include the Eternal Tree of Rhunatha, the Sunshell Vaults, shards of Xul, and dormant fragments of fallen deities still radiating their influence.

Purification by the Zaltar and Dawnbringers Copy link

Finally, some Purelands are reclaimed from corruption through the efforts of others. Zaltar warriors wielding Atrazhel blades untangle corrupted Threads, while Dawnbringers perform Solar Sanction Rituals to restore lands to their uncorrupted form. Such sanctified zones are often marked by glowing flora of all Thread colors, Sanctioned Loam in their soil, and harmonic birdsong or scents that signal balanced resonance.

In essence, Purelands are not merely safe havens—they are the beating hearts of Rhuna’s Balance, places where the world remembers what it was meant to be.

Witherlands (Dreth’un) Copy link

Witherlands, called Dreth’un by those who fear them, are the opposite of Purelands. These regions are tainted by Vel’s corruption, their Threads collapsed into black entropy, leaving behind landscapes that devour life, memory, and reality itself. They are places where balance has been lost, and where the very ground seems to hunger for the living.

Collapsed Thread Convergence Copy link

At the heart of every Witherland is a wound: a point where all five Threads have collapsed into black Thread, the color of unmaking. These zones are self-feeding knots of decay, where the Weave has disintegrated and the land consumes itself to sustain its own corruption. The Heartcoil Hollows, Blackwater Fields, and the Maw of Vel are prime examples—voidlike regions where reality itself is brittle and dying.

Active Veldraken Influence Copy link

Witherlands often spread because they are seeded by the presence of Veldraken, creatures born of Vel’s hunger. Each one is a living infection, and where they nest, die, or battle, the ground becomes irreparably tainted. Even in their absence, their lingering corruption causes these lands to erupt during stress events or during moon eclipses, when Vel’s power surges.

Thread Extraction and Auskfall Copy link

Some Witherlands are not born of Vel directly but of mortal folly. When Threads are recklessly extracted or Sanction stripped from a region, what remains is an empty husk—a dead land of Nullsilt and Ausk ash. Such places are hollow vessels eagerly filled by Wither’s creeping tendrils, their former vibrancy erased.

Divine Absence and Desecration Copy link

Sacred lands can fall into Wither if abandoned. When a deity’s protection is lost—through death, destruction, or desecration—entropy rushes in to claim the void. Fallen shrines of Astrals and desecrated Zaltar battlegrounds often become epicenters of spreading corruption, reminders of how fragile sanctity truly is.

Reinforced Corruption Copy link

Some Witherlands are deliberately maintained as strongholds of chaos. Forbidden relics, cults of Vel, and shards of consumed worlds act as anchors, locking the land in a permanent state of decay. Until these anchors are destroyed or sealed, no purification can take root.

In the end, Witherlands are more than deadly—they are warnings. They show what happens when harmony is broken beyond repair, when balance is abandoned, and when the hunger of Vel is left unchecked.
