Currency in Rhuna Copy link
Currency in Rhuna reflects the philosophical and economic diversity of its cultures, each shaped by history, survival, and divine upheaval. Trade across the continent revolves around three core systems: Corvian Gold, the Gahlian Mark, and Meridian Luck Vaults—each used in different regions and for different types of transaction. Together, they form the lifeblood of commerce, each symbolizing not just wealth, but the values of those who wield it.
Corvian Gold – The First Established Currency Copy link

Practical, widespread, and forged by the Great Banking House Guild of Corvia, Corvian Gold was the first structured and dominant currency of Rhuna. Its three denominations—Rose (Rse), Thorn (Thn), and Stem (Stm)—serve all levels of everyday trade. Roses, the highest unit, are polished silver-glass coins often bearing guild symbols or regional crests. Thorns, made of silver-gold alloy, are the workhorses of commerce, while Stems, small copper electrum coins, handle daily bartering.
Materially, Corvian Gold is a durable mix of gold and electrum, balancing strength with consistent value. The Rose is used for large transactions and noble dealings, Thorns for general trade, and Stems for common goods. Each coin carries the emblem of Corvia’s Six Houses, with the Rose featuring the Balance Stone, symbolizing economic stability.
Corvian Gold’s introduction revolutionized trade, creating a standard that linked rural markets, ports, and city guilds under one system. Its strength lay in its structure—stability for common folk and reliability for merchants. Yet over time, its very success bred weakness. Counterfeiting became rampant, and successive trade houses debased the coins for profit, leading to black-market variations and manipulated weights. Despite this, Corvian Gold remains the common coin of ports, cities, and rural markets—a foundation of daily life in Rhuna.

The Gahlian Mark – Northern Mastercraft Currency Copy link

If Corvian Gold symbolizes stability, the Gahlian Mark (GMK) represents prestige, security, and craft beyond mortal tampering. Created by the Gahlians, masters of Adaptation Threads and unparalleled artisanship, the Mark is forged from aurumsteel—a blend of gold, silver, and an alchemically treated blue-thread alloy that renders it immune to wear, corrosion, or forgery.
The Mark exists in three forms: Low Marks (L-GMK) for urban commerce and guild wages, Mid Marks (M-GMK) for realm-wide trade and valuable acquisitions, and High Marks (H-GMK) reserved for noble dealings, magical contracts, and artifacts of great power. Each coin is intricately carved, shifting subtly in luminescence or texture depending on the environment—an innate defense against counterfeiting. Some rare “Weaver’s Marks” are even attuned to specific Threaders, unspendable by anyone else.
Because of its permanence and incorruptibility, the Gahlian Mark quickly outclassed Corvian Gold in value retention and security. It became the favored currency of Threaders, nobles, and trade aristocracy across Rhuna. Accessing Marks often involves more than simple coinage; Mark Cards and bank tokens linked to Thread resonance or name-signatures allow secure transactions. Conversion between GMKs and Corvian Gold is tightly regulated by guilds, ensuring their supremacy remains unchallenged.

Meridian Luck – Vaults of Divine Uncertainty Copy link
Unique to Meridia and parts of the Strand, Luck Currency is unlike anything else in Rhuna: wealth bound not to metal or labor, but to fate itself. These “Vaults of Divine Uncertainty” are infused with Divine Dust (Glimmer)—remnants of god-wars that warped reality and fortune. Instead of coins, wealth is stored in Vault-Rings or Glimmer Keys, each attuned to an individual through sacred rituals.
Value within these vaults is volatile, fluctuating daily with the tides of chance and ambient Thread energy. Fortunes can multiply overnight—or vanish completely. The Lottery of the Divine, a revered and feared Meridian tradition, uses these vaults to bestow boons or ruin on its participants. Access to such wealth is highly exclusive, requiring lineage ties, verified essence, or sponsorship from powerful Meridian officials.
Because of its instability, Luck-based currency is not accepted in traditional markets. Instead, it fuels elite warfare, funds the Sanguine Suns mercenaries, bankrolls divine tournaments, and can even shift the course of regional conflicts with a single, perfectly timed withdrawal. It is wealth as power incarnate—untamed, dangerous, and deeply revered by those who dare to wield it.
Conversion and Everyday Costs Copy link
For most adventurers and common folk, Corvian Gold remains the standard of living expenses. Ten Roses equal one Low Mark, while 1,000 Roses equal one High Mark—a conversion so lopsided that few ever handle GMKs outside of noble contracts. Luck Vaults, by contrast, are non-convertible and intentionally unpredictable.
Basic living costs reflect the Corvian system’s grounding in daily life: a simple meal costs 0.1 Roses, a night at a common inn 0.5 Roses, while luxury accommodations reach 5 Roses. A horse might be bought for 20 Roses, a basic weapon for 10 Roses, and an enchanted weapon for a staggering 500 Roses. Clothing, rations, and other essentials scale similarly, making Corvian Gold the true currency of survival, while GMKs and Luck Vaults remain tools of power, prestige, and peril.
