Flora of Rhuna – The Living Threads of the Land Copy link

Rhuna’s flora is more than vegetation—it is a living extension of the Threads themselves, shaped by divine influence and the scars of cosmic war. Each biome carries plants bound to the dominant Threads that sustain it, serving as anchors of power, memory, and survival. To harvest these plants is to draw directly from the Weave of the world.

Grasslands – Domain of Kalthi (Violet Thread: Abundance, Fertility, Air, Smell) Copy link

The grasslands embody life’s unrestrained abundance. Every stalk, flower, and seed here pulses with vitality, feeding the vast ecosystems above and below ground.

Bloomspire Trees Tall, spindly trees crowned with blossoms that change color and scent with the seasons. Their pollen carries faint, calming effects, easing tensions in those who breathe it. In excess, however, it induces lethargy and dependence—nature’s reminder that abundance can suffocate as well as nourish.

Aethervine Clusters Rootless, drifting vines that float just above the soil, tethered by threads of light. They spread spores in glittering clouds that fertilize the land. Many Kalthir bonders use them in ritual plantings to revitalize barren fields.

Hearthseed Pods Bulbous, fragrant seeds that burst explosively when ripe, scattering dozens of seedlings across wide distances. Often planted deliberately around Kalthir settlements to ensure continual renewal of food and medicine sources.

Cultural Note: The Kalthir see these plants as sacred gifts from Kalthi herself. Hearthseed groves often surround birthplaces, symbolizing renewal, while Bloomspires mark ancestral sites with their ever-shifting hues.

Forests – Legacy of Gahl’s Strikes (Red Thread: Domain, Fire) tempered by Kalthi’s Breath (Violet Growth) Copy link

The forests of Rhuna are battlegrounds of life and fire, where creation and destruction are in constant negotiation.

Ironbark Trees Immense trunks with bark harder than stone, infused with dormant heat. When lightning strikes or drought arrives, they ignite from within, burning their canopy to ash and clearing the way for new life—a cycle of fiery renewal central to the forest’s balance.

Emberleaf Moss A luminous groundcover that glows faintly with residual heat. When touched, it warms the skin and can be brewed into restorative teas to revive those weakened by exhaustion or cold.

Ashflower Blossoms Delicate flowers that only bloom after wildfire has passed. Their petals are potent in healing salves, but also in poisons—versatile tools for both life and death.

Cultural Note: Duranine architects and Kalthir bonders alike build homes and temples around Ironbarks, believing their cycle of burning and regrowth mirrors Rhuna’s own resilience. Ashflowers are considered offerings to honor those lost to fire or war.

Tundras – Legacy of Gahl’s Second Strike (Blue Thread: Adaptation, Ice, Endurance) Copy link

The tundras hold life in subtle persistence, every plant adapted to survive extremes of cold and scarcity.

Frostlily A crystalline-petaled flower that blooms near geothermal vents. When steeped, its petals provide warmth and slow-healing properties, making it essential for survival in frozen climates.

Evermoss A low, silver-green moss that grows beneath snow, glowing faintly at night. It is a primary food source for tundra herbivores and can sustain mortals through harsh winters when no other food can be found.

Shardpine Needle-spined evergreens that hum faintly when wind passes through them, producing eerie melodies believed to ward off predators and evil spirits.

Cultural Note: The Esarkhin carve homes into the roots of Shardpines, seeing them as guardians of memory and endurance. Frostlilies are ritually offered to the dead during the long nights, symbolizing warmth in the cold of death.

Oceans – Born of Halka’s Grief (Water, Memory, Song) Copy link

Rhuna’s oceans are living repositories of memory and sorrow, their flora carrying remnants of divine emotion.

Lamentweed A pale, ribbon-like seaweed that emits low, mournful tones when disturbed by currents. Used by sailors to navigate in fog, as its tones shift with tides and storms.

Glowkelp Forests Towering underwater plants that radiate soft blue-green light. They provide shelter for countless marine species and can be distilled into luminescent oils prized by Ezhani artisans.

Coral of Echoes Crimson coral formations that capture and replay sounds from the past. Divers retrieve fragments to use in storytelling rituals or to communicate with ancestral voices.

Cultural Note: The Ezhani hold Glowkelp in high esteem, weaving its light into their subterranean riverways. Coral of Echoes is considered sacred and never harvested without ceremonial permission, as it is believed to house the voices of the fallen.

Deserts – Domain of Pahr (Green Thread: Time, Guidance, Sight, Illusion) Copy link

The deserts are landscapes of shifting reality, where flora holds both survival and mystery.

Miragethorn Aloe A thorned succulent with refractive skin that bends light, making it appear to vanish in the heat haze. Its sap restores clarity of mind, vital for navigating illusions and memory-warping phenomena.

Timebloom Cactus A barrel cactus whose flowers open only once every seven years, coinciding with rare celestial alignments. Consuming its nectar grants vivid visions of past or future events.

Starvine Shrubs Twisting bushes whose branches form constellations at night, glowing faintly. Travelers use them as waypoints; to the Pahric, they are living maps tied to Pahr’s guidance.

Cultural Note: The Pahric harvest Miragethorn sparingly, as overuse dulls its power. Timebloom nectar is reserved for sacred oracles and rites, never consumed casually, as its visions can reshape lives—or destroy them.
