Vathians are mortal fragments of the shattered Astraleth. When Xantyr fractured those divine beings, their essence was scattered so completely that they could never reform as whole gods. Each Vathian carries only a minute portion of an Astraleth, living as a distinct individual rather than as a piece consciously seeking reunion.

Vathian fragments return to mortal life through the cycle shepherded by their Matra’kai. Each life is its own person, without direct memory of being an Astraleth or of previous incarnations. What persists are subtler echoes: instincts, emotions, images, affinities, and moments of recognition that seem to come from somewhere beyond the present life.

Every Vathian lineage possesses an extreme imbalance of perception: one Sense is heightened far beyond the mortal norm while another is diminished or entirely absent. This imbalance shapes how they understand the world and gives rise to the Endless Hunger, a persistent yearning associated with what their fractured nature cannot fully experience.

The Endless Hunger is not ordinary appetite. It is the emotional and existential consequence of incompleteness. Its expression differs between lineages, driving them toward experiences, relationships, knowledge, sensation, or connection that can quiet the Hunger without ever permanently satisfying it.

A Vathian life ends, but the fragment carried within it remains part of the greater Vathian cycle and may eventually return through its Matra’kai. The next incarnation is not a continuation of the same personality, though traces of earlier lives may surface as unfamiliar memories, emotions, skills, or recognition.

Their struggle is whether a meaningful life can be built from experience—or whether every powerful experience eventually creates the need for something stronger.

Their Endless Hunger turns toward warmth and closeness. Affection, intimacy, companionship, and emotional connection may carry unusual importance precisely because physical reassurance reaches them imperfectly.
Their struggle is whether resilience can help them endure distance without allowing that distance to become isolation.

Their Endless Hunger turns toward illumination: imagery, description, revelation, art, understanding, and the desire to experience directly what others perceive without effort.
Their struggle lies between understanding something through resonance and longing to witness it through a Sense they can never fully possess.

Their Endless Hunger turns toward connection. Intimacy, companionship, affection, sensuality, shared presence, and living relationships become powerful ways of reaching beyond the silence that shapes their perception of the world.
Their struggle is whether connection can be allowed to deepen naturally without the Hunger turning every bond into something that must continually become more.

Their struggle is discovering that an answer is not the same thing as certainty—and that seeing more does not necessarily mean understanding more.
