THE READERS OF FATE Copy link

Pahric · book illustration

“The stars are not silent, nor is the land beneath our feet. Every step we take is a verse in a song already written, but only fools believe the melody is unchanging. We are the readers of fate, the unseen hands of history, the guides to paths yet unwritten.” — Avaris Ul-Zemek, Oracular Keeper of the Veyli

WHAT IT MEANS TO BE PAHRIC Copy link

The Pahric are the quiet interpreters of possibility, a Vathian people shaped by perception, concealment, and the burden of seeing patterns others cannot.

Before the Fracturing, there was Pahr, the Astraleth of Visions, whose awareness stretched across what had been, what was, and what might yet come to pass. When Pahr was shattered, that impossible sight fractured with him. His essence scattered into countless mortal lives, each one carrying only the smallest fragment of the whole.

Every Pahric is one of those fragments.

They are not descendants of Pahr, nor simply a people blessed by him. Beneath each individual identity lives a minute portion of the Astraleth himself, returned to the world through the Vathian cycle. Through the Green Thread of Guidance, traces of that ancient perception surface in incomplete ways: a recurring pattern within history, a celestial alignment, the shape of an approaching decision, or the subtle sense that one apparently insignificant moment is about to alter many others.

This does not make the Pahric omniscient.

Quite the opposite.

Their culture is built around the understanding that partial knowledge can be more dangerous than ignorance. A glimpse of the future is not the future itself. A pattern may be real and still be misunderstood. A prophecy acted upon too aggressively may create the very outcome it hoped to prevent.

For the Pahric, wisdom is therefore not simply the ability to see.

It is knowing when to reveal, when to conceal, and when to let possibility remain possibility.

LIFE AS A PAHRIC Copy link

Pahric life is shaped by study, interpretation, and long periods of observation.

Their greatest archives are the Veyli, ancient puzzle-box repositories whose knowledge must be unraveled rather than simply read. Each can contain history, prophecy, forgotten testimony, or dangerous insight encoded through shifting symbols, nested mechanisms, and patterns that reveal meaning only to those prepared to understand it. Knowledge is treated less like property and more like responsibility. Some truths must be earned. Others must wait.

At the center of their traditions lies the Great Library of Zemek’Thal, where generations of Pahric have gathered celestial records, hidden histories, observations, unrealized possibilities, and fragments of insight too complex or dangerous to be trusted to ordinary memory.

Yet the Pahric are not merely librarians.

They intervene.

Their Santeshaar Cloaks mimic the world around them, shifting in tone and pattern like living chromatophores. A Pahric sentinel may vanish against stone, desert, sea, cloud, or shadow and move through events without announcing their presence. Their influence is often deliberately small: the warning whispered to the correct person, the document removed before discovery, the traveler redirected before reaching the wrong road, the one conversation subtly changed before an entire conflict begins.

Their rebirth is shepherded by Mother Zemek, Matra’kai of Vision and Time, whose strange and ancient form watches over Pahr’s fragments through each mortal cycle.

The individual Pahric does not remember being Pahr.

They do not remember their previous lives.

And perhaps that is necessary.

No single consciousness was meant to hold the totality of that vision again.

PLAYING A PAHRIC Copy link

Pahric tend to suit players who enjoy investigation, foresight, concealment, pattern recognition, subtle influence, misdirection, and characters who prefer changing outcomes without standing at the center of them.

They are particularly satisfying for players who enjoy asking questions before choosing actions.

What is everyone overlooking?

Which event actually matters?

Who needs to know this?

Who absolutely should not?

A Pahric Hero often feels strongest when turning information into leverage. They may obscure a path, redirect attention, manipulate perception, expose an overlooked pattern, or make one small intervention whose consequences become apparent much later.

Their relationship with fate also creates a natural dramatic tension.

If you believe you can see where events are going, how much right do you have to interfere?

A Pahric may save hundreds through a quiet act no one ever understands.

They may also manipulate people into lives they never chose because they became too convinced that they alone could see the proper path.

APPEARANCE Copy link

Pahric possess one of the quieter but stranger visual identities among the Vathians.

Their skin commonly ranges through jade-green, pale seafoam, desaturated turquoise, blue-green stone, porcelain-green, and soft mineral tones. Some appear nearly ordinary at a distance, while others carry a pearlescent or faintly translucent quality, as though color rests beneath polished stone.

One of their most distinctive traits is the presence of delicate spiral structures, shell-like coils, circular growths, and organic formations around the head and temples. These forms vary greatly between individuals and can appear simultaneously anatomical and ceremonial, as though parts of the body have naturally developed into instruments for interpreting hidden patterns.

Their heads are frequently shaven or bald, though others wear pale white, gray, cream, or muted green hair in carefully arranged waves, coils, braids, or long sections.

Their eyes are commonly bright green, turquoise, pale gold-green, or softly luminous, sometimes appearing almost glass-like.

Va-script often crosses the brow, throat, chest, wrists, hands, or temples in patterns resembling celestial diagrams, tidal forms, branching paths, nested geometry, and circular maps. Fine gold tracing may follow these lines or grow alongside their natural cranial structures.

Pahric clothing favors cream, bone, pale gray, seafoam, muted turquoise, worn bronze, and antique gold. Layered scarves, long robes, embroidered coats, wrapped trousers, satchels, Veyli cases, celestial instruments, and delicate metalwork are common.

A Pahric should look like someone who has spent a lifetime learning to read things the rest of the world does not realize are written down.

SHAVRAHNI Copy link

STARBORNE NAVIGATORS Copy link

WHAT MAKES A SHAVRAHNI DIFFERENT Copy link

The Shavrahni turn Pahric vision toward the largest possible patterns.

They are astronomers, celestial historians, conjunction-keepers, and interpreters of changes that may unfold over decades or centuries. Where others see a constellation, a Shavrahni may see the recurrence of an ancient political cycle. Where others see an unusual planetary crossing, they may see the first line of a story whose conclusion will not arrive for generations.

Their discipline is perspective.

They are trained not to confuse urgency with importance.

This can make them immensely valuable.

It can also make them infuriating.

A Shavrahni may understand that an apparent crisis is only a symptom of something much larger, but the person standing in the crisis still has to survive until tomorrow.

The best Shavrahni learn to hold both truths at once.

PLAYING A SHAVRAHNI Copy link

Shavrahni suit players who enjoy long-term thinking, prophecy, research, celestial symbolism, history, patience, and recognizing patterns that operate beyond the immediate scene.

They naturally support Heroes who want to connect seemingly unrelated events or recognize that the current problem has roots much older than anyone realizes.

Their dramatic challenge is deciding when the long view has become an excuse for failing to act in the present.

APPEARANCE Copy link

Shavrahni tend toward the palest and most celestial-looking coloration among the Pahric.

Their skin commonly appears in pale jade, porcelain-green, cream-seafoam, soft mineral white, and faintly luminous tones. Fine speckling may cross the skin like distant points of light, particularly along the face, shoulders, arms, and upper chest.

Va-script often follows orbital spirals, conjunction diagrams, celestial arcs, nested circles, and long curving trajectories. These markings can brighten subtly when a Shavrahni studies or interacts with larger patterns of possibility.

Their clothing is ceremonial and scholarly: long robes, layered pale fabrics, wrapped garments, antique-gold ornament, astronomical jewelry, chart cases, scroll tubes, and finely constructed observation instruments.

Their Santeshaar Cloaks may appear dark and nearly featureless when folded, but when opened can resemble a section of night sky, with points and patterns shifting subtly as the wearer moves.

Hair is commonly pale, silver, cream, white, or muted gray-green, often worn long or arranged into careful sculptural shapes around their cranial structures.

Their palette favors cream, pale turquoise, mineral green, soft gray, antique gold, night blue, and subdued black.

A Shavrahni should look like an observatory given living form.

VEYTHALI Copy link

THREADWEAVERS OF THE PRESENT Copy link

WHAT MAKES A VEYTHALI DIFFERENT Copy link

The Veythali care less about what may happen a century from now.

They care about the next breath.

Their fragment of Pahr expresses itself through immediate possibility: hesitation, timing, conflict, opportunity, the single misplaced word or unnoticed movement that determines which way an event turns.

A Veythali studies these moments and intervenes precisely.

They rarely attempt to control everything that follows. Their art is identifying the smallest useful correction.

A hand placed on a shoulder.

A sentence delayed.

A guard looking left instead of right.

One person arriving three minutes later.

They trust that history does not always need to be commanded.

Sometimes it only needs to be nudged.

PLAYING A VEYTHALI Copy link

Veythali suit players who enjoy subtle manipulation, timing, social influence, stealth, tactical intervention, and characters whose smallest actions can have disproportionate effects.

They work particularly well for players who enjoy staying slightly outside the obvious center of a scene while quietly determining its direction.

Their strongest moments should feel almost effortless in retrospect.

The danger is becoming too comfortable deciding which outcomes other people ought to experience.

APPEARANCE Copy link

Veythali tend toward a more practical, mobile, and restrained appearance than the highly ceremonial Shavrahni.

Their skin commonly ranges through rich jade, seafoam, muted teal, green-gray, blue-green, and polished mineral tones, sometimes marked by faint ripple patterns or fine geometric Va-script.

Their organic cranial structures remain distinctive but are often smaller, closer to the head, or arranged in ways that do not interfere with movement. Spiral growths, circular structures, shell-like forms, and delicate gold tracing may appear around the temples, ears, brow, and jaw.

Their clothing favors layered pale robes, travel scarves, narrow coats, fitted wraps, flexible shoes, satchels, concealed tools, and Santeshaar fabrics capable of shifting subtly toward surrounding colors and textures.

Jewelry tends to remain close to the body: narrow gold bands, small rings, delicate temple pieces, fine chains, and compact instruments rather than broad ceremonial ornament.

Their palette favors jade, pale gray, cream, muted teal, dusty green, worn bronze, and restrained gold.

Their presentation is designed not to command attention, but to move through it.

A Veythali should look like someone you remember seeing only after you realize they are gone.

ZEYMRAHN Copy link

MIRROR-SEERS OF THE VEIL Copy link

WHAT MAKES A ZEYMRAHN DIFFERENT Copy link

The Zeymrahn study what did not happen.

Their sight turns toward abandoned possibilities, contradictory futures, and the echoes left by paths reality almost chose.

To most people, these possibilities are nothing.

To a Zeymrahn, they can leave traces.

A conversation that could have ended differently.

A war that almost began.

A person who nearly died.

A city that existed only within a branch of possibility that vanished before anyone entered it.

Zeymrahn preserve these echoes not because they wish to escape into them, but because unrealized outcomes can still contain information.

Sometimes the path that never happened explains the one that did.

Their discipline is maintaining a stable self while looking into countless versions of what might have been.

That is harder than it sounds.

PLAYING A ZEYMRAHN Copy link

Zeymrahn suit players who enjoy mystery, paradox, hidden knowledge, alternate possibilities, interpretation, misdirection, and slightly stranger forms of investigation.

They are excellent for Heroes who question assumptions and who enjoy treating apparent certainty as something worth examining.

Their best stories explore the danger of possibility itself.

If you have seen a better version of your life somewhere that never happened, can you still value the one you actually have?

APPEARANCE Copy link

Zeymrahn display some of the strangest and most formally composed traits among the Pahric.

Their skin commonly ranges through porcelain-white, pale seafoam, gray-green, colorless jade, and faint translucent mineral tones.

Their Va-script is frequently mirrored, symmetrical, doubled, or arranged in patterns that resist direct interpretation. Some markings become fully legible only when reflected in polished metal, water, glass, or another smooth surface.

Their eyes may respond strangely to surrounding light, creating the faint impression that their gaze, reflection, and illumination are not perfectly synchronized.

Their Santeshaar Cloaks favor balanced but shifting symmetrical patterns: mirrored smoke, doubled geometry, repeating arcs, reflected forms, and shapes that nearly align before drifting apart again.

Zeymrahn often possess the most pronounced cranial structures among the Pahric. Sculptural head growths, circular sensory forms, shell-like coils, layered spirals, and gold filigree closely integrated with the skin can give them an almost ceremonial stillness even when completely unadorned.

Their clothing is usually restrained enough to let these natural structures dominate the silhouette: long pale garments, high collars, symmetrical drapery, fine metallic borders, and carefully balanced jewelry.

Their palette favors porcelain, pale jade, seafoam, gray, antique gold, black, and subdued turquoise.

A Zeymrahn should look like a prophecy reflected in water after someone has already disturbed the surface.
